The prices of swimming pools in the metro cities tend to be 10% to 25% more (depending on exact location in India) than in the B cities. One factor is the material and labour cost that is significantly higher but can be estimated fairly accurately, and the other more difficult to manage factor is the logistics cost. Access and deliveries in metro cities can be fairly expensive and time consuming.

Swimming Pool Prices
The cost of a swimming pool is influenced by a multitude of factors, ranging from the fundamental design choices to the unique conditions of your property and the luxury features you select. These factors can be broadly grouped into four main categories:

1. Pool Type and Materials

This is the single biggest determinant of the initial construction price. In-ground pools are significantly more expensive than above-ground kits due to excavation, groundwork, and more extensive construction. In terms of construction materials a concrete pool although the most customisable with high durability is the most expensive but well suited for indoor pools and often the only option for a basement pool. Fibreglass pools with pre-made shells are mid range and where access permits offer quicker installation and low maintenance especially for outdoor pools. Vinyl liner pools are the least expensive upfront but liner needs replacing every 5-10 years, adding to long-term costs.

Larger pools require more materials (shell, water, coping), more excavation, and have higher lifetime running costs (heating, chemicals) plus deeper pools also cost more due to increased excavation and structural requirements. In terms of shape simple rectangular or square pools are generally the most cost-effective. Custom, free-form, or complex shapes (like 'L' or kidney) increase costs due to greater complexity in construction, tiling, and covering.
Indoor pools are substantially more expensive as they require building a dedicated, climate-controlled structure, including a dehumidification and air handling system.
2. Site and Installation Conditions
Your property itself can introduce major variables that increase the complexity and cost of the build. If the ground is rocky, heavy clay, or has a high water table, the excavation work will take longer, require specialised equipment (like rock-hammers), and will significantly increase costs. If heavy machinery (diggers, cement trucks) cannot easily access the build area, the cost of manual labour, smaller equipment hire, and material transport will rise.

Labour rates and contractor availability can vary across India, with metropolitan areas typically having higher prices. Waste removal i.e. the cost of hauling away the excavated earth can also be sgnificant.

3. Equipment, Features, and Finishing
These are the elements that add comfort, luxury, and functionality. Installation costs vary by type: Electric heaters are less expensive upfront than efficient Air Source Heat Pumps, but heat pumps offer lower running costs. Basic bubble pool covers are cheap, but an automatic slatted safety cover can add INR 10L+, though it significantly reduces heat loss and running costs.

Large format tiles or luxury mosaics will be much more expensive than standard pool liners or basic plaster finishes. Installing a high-quality patio, paving, or decking around the pool is an additional, often underestimated, cost. Features like waterfalls, counter-current swim jets, integrated spas/hot tubs, specialised lighting, or infinity edges all add considerable expense.

4. Running and Long-Term Costs (The "Hidden" Costs)
These are crucial to budget for beyond the initial construction price. Costs for running the pump, filter, and especially the heater can be INR 1k - 3k per month during the summer swimming season while if you use pool cleaning services the ongoing cost of balancing water chemistry and professional servicing is also to be accounted for.
